SPECIAL EYEontheUN REPORT
THE UN-NGO CONNECTION: SPREADING THE MESSAGE OF HATE AND TERRORISM
June 12, 2006

UN-accredited NGO Al-Awda, The Palestine Right to Return Coalition

The message of UN-accredited NGO Al-Awda: on its home page is a key that must be liberated to unlock the door to Israel - all of Israel - which is portrayed as belonging to Palestinians. This is coupled with a call to violence "by any means," "everywhere." The stylized map is the same imagery as the infamous UN map, displayed at the UN on November 29, 2005, that deleted Israel. It also mirrors the maps used by Palestinian terrorist organizations. Al-Awda is accredited by the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, listed on the UN NGO database on the Question of Palestine, and the UN website links to Al-Awda's home page. The accompanying UN disclaimer of responsibility for the content of all links neglects to mention that NGOs entitled to such connections are selected by UN staff. The UN advises would-be NGO applicants: "Your submission will be reviewed by our team of editors shortly."

The message of UN-accredited NGO BADIL: Jews would rather serve grenades than cookies or make a pastime of blowing up innocent holiday-makers, and all of Israel (denoted by the same map imagery as Al-Awda or Hamas) belongs to the Palestinians. These pictures appeared on the BADIL site in 2005 – they vanished after BADIL was questioned about them during the 2006 UN accreditation process. The BADIL representative denied their existence, but the language pointing to the now dysfunctional links still exist. The BADIL message remains the same.

UN NGO accreditation: the promises of the Charter ignored
In this special report EYEontheUN documents the dissemination, by UN accredited NGOs, of hatred of Jews and the Jewish state. It is a message which is diametrically opposed to the purposes and principles of the United Nations. Here are their words.

Here are the links establishing the exact nature of the UN connections to NGOs that operate contrary to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

The UN has various processes for NGOs to become affiliated or accredited to the organization. Accreditation entitles NGOs to benefits, including the wider dissemination of their views by way of the internet, conferences or publications. In order to qualify for accreditation NGOs must operate in conformity with, or promote, the UN Charter -- namely, affirm "faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small."

The global reach of the UN-NGO soapbox
BADIL was granted UN accreditation in January of 2006. In the course of the hearing, the representative of BADIL lied to Committee members about the nature and substance of their operations. BADIL advocates that Zionism is racism, encourages terrorism, and fails to meet the qualification of conformity with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. But BADIL had the explicit support of a UN insider: the head of UNRWA - Karen Koning AbuZayd.

It is not difficult to locate like-minded NGO's interested in the demonization and destruction of Israel. The UN has created the “NGO Network on the Question of Palestine.” Once provided the global UN soapbox, their message is unambiguous: to weaken Israel mortally in two stages: first, wildly-distorted accusations of gross human rights violations and the resulting demonization of Israelis, and second, calls for boycotts of Israeli institutions and divestment in the Israeli economy.
